What makes a Beagle look like yours
Beagles look alike from across a park and completely different up close. The classic tricolour has a black saddle, a tan head and white legs, but the size of the saddle, the width of the blaze and how much tan reaches the ears change from dog to dog.
Lemon, red and white, and faded tricolours are common too. Your beagle's pattern is read from your photos rather than painted from a standard, so the saddle ends where it really ends.

The saddle
The black or dark patch across the back, with edges of its own on every dog. A photo from each side shows it best.
Long, low ears
Wide, rounded ears that reach far down the muzzle, usually tan and sometimes edged in black.
White flag tail
Carried up, with a white tip, and built from your photos along with the rest of the coat.
Blaze and muzzle
A white stripe up the face and a white muzzle, often freckled. A close face photo picks them up.
The best photos of your Beagle
Beagles photograph best after a long walk, when they will stand still for a few seconds. Take a side view from each side, because saddles are rarely the same left and right. Kneel so the camera is level with the back. For the face, hold a treat just above the lens so they look up and forward. Outdoor light on a cloudy day keeps the tan warm without turning it orange.

Questions
Does it work for beagle mixes?
Yes, puggles, beagle and basset crosses, and every hound mix with a surprising coat are built from their own photos, so the mix never gets in the way.
What if my beagle has unusual markings?
A saddle that splits in two, ticking on white legs, a lemon coat with no black or spots on the muzzle come from your photos. Make sure each shows up clearly at least once.
My beagle's saddle has faded with age. Should I use old photos?
Use photos of the beagle you want on your desktop. If you would rather have them as they were at three, pictures from then are fine, as long as they are clear.
Why photograph both sides of a beagle?
Beagle markings are rarely mirror images. A photo of each side lets the model place the saddle and patches properly on both.
